Bible: God's Word?/ WTBTS: The Truth?

thus, as my lord said, "you will know the truth... and the truth... will set you free.

therefore, if the son (the truth) sets you free, you will truly be free!

I am not saying the bible does not have some value but it should be put into perspective as a book. I don't believe it was inspired as there is too many discrepancies in it. If it was God's word why did he allow it to be written and rewritten over and over again? Also when you look at the early Christian movement it was shaky at best. The early church fathers were known to add or delete what they wanted in order to support their interpretation or veiws of what Christianity should be. Case in point something I posted in an earlier post,

From the book, Honest to Jesus by Robert W. Funk it says;

Marcion, a wealthy shipowner who organized his own Christian sect, gathered into his Bible only those scriptures that supported his theological position. After coming to Rome from Pontus in Asia Minor (ca 140-150), Marcion promulgated a collection of "scriptures" consisting of the Gospel of Luke and ten letters of Paul, all heavily edited. The lesson was not lost on the later church. Both Marcion and the Church excluded books if they were deemed to deviate from desirable doctrine or practice. Marcion is also know to have taken scissors and paste to the documents he chose, He cut out parts of Luke and the Pauline letters that he didn't like. We do not know how often that same approach was used prior to the fixing of the text in the fourth and fifth centuries.

Hey don't you know the bible is the word of God because it say so in the bible. This always seems like a circular logic to me. Same argument as I am God because I told you I was. All great religions have their holy books and they all believe their book to be inspired also. So who is right or wrong?? I choose to not look at any book as being inspired but take out of those books what I can to build a better life for myself.

Lady Lee,

No one should have to go through what you did. You were victimized twice. I understand a bit of how personal they can get from my own experience with them. Some years ago I was trying for reinstatement and they knew I have a female friend. Well they wanted to know every little intimate detail although I told them that I didn't have sexual relations with her. What right do these unqualified elders have asking questions that only a professional counselor should be asking? I would really like to know how many people after being interrogated have had their lives ruined..

One subject we discussed was the Witnesses history, in agreement with an OT rule, of requiring a woman to scream during a rape, or she may be considered guilty of immorality.
Really.
Here is part of Brown's response:
"We feel that is a reasonable position to take."
"If this [screaming] has been done, then we are not going to view that, obviously, as some immorality."
So, Brown defended the policy. There was much more.

I find that the uncaring for our fellow humans is not just a Jdub thing. I know I was telling someone the other day that I may lose my job and he laughed. Makes me wonder where we are heading to in society when people can be so heartless to someone elses misfortunes.

You are correct not many in the 3rd world countries have access to a PC but most people here in Canada and the US either have access or can get access to a PC. I know myself now before I would get involved with anything whither it is a religious or business proposition, I would research them first on the Internet.
